« The role of a painter is not just to put colors on a canvas, as well as a poet does not just write some words on paper. Â» René Magritte

René Magritte was born on 21 november in 1898,  in Lessines, Belgium, and died in Brussels, 15 august 1967. He was a surrealist artist. After having been close to and the most great figures, as Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, writer André Breton and poet Paul Eluard, the artist continues to fascinate as much as to inspire us. His work influenced also many artistic contemporary movements as pop art, minimalism and even conceptualism.

The painter of metaphysics and surreal, Magritte dealt with the obviousness with a scathing humor in order to undermine the importance of fundamentals and the seriosness of things.  He intervened between objects and its representation, images and words. Instead to invent a new technique, he prefered  to investigate the bottom of things, to use the paintinng and sculture that becomes the tool of knowledge, inseparable from the mystery. « Magritte is a great painter, Magritte is not a painter. Â», wrote the poet and writer  Louis Scutenaire.

At the end of his life, Magritte have been sculpt as much as he painted. After having decided to combine these two activities, he created series of sculptures inspired from the classical art and gave to those a touch of originality through the choice of colors that covered it and throught constantly riminding us his paintings.
