Bernard Vié graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts and became an architect.

Between 1973 and 1988, he spent his time between plastic arts and his professional occupation as an architect.

Since then, he has dedicated himself to sculpture. Some of his works of art have been presented during exhibitions while the sculptures that are of a bigger size are set within a constructed site or landscape. He now works on how art can contribute to architecture and to today’s urban environment.

Bernard Vié has carried out many private and public orders in France, five of which are in Paris. Drawing on his past experience as an architect, he likes to work within the surroundings and its architecture.

Although his smaller sculptures are always of a figurative style, the more his creations increase in size, the more each becomes an interaction distancing itself from its original motive. They become constructions thus linked to the architectural environment.

Although each site brings a new vision and with it raises new ideas and the delicate choice of the materials used, we continually find the central theme of a being often portrayed by the simple eloquence of its gesture, its force. The contrast of two materials (for example granite and bronze) allow him to bring together introversion and freedom, density and lightness, immobility and movement.

His creations fluctuate between a tender and secret intimacy and the baroque lyric poetry expressed with the most theatrical of gestures. Within this very personal conception we can feel the extravagant ambition to express life in all its simplicity.
